It happened in November and I still can’t believe it. I wrote a story that went viral.
OK, it went viral-ish. It has 8,000 views and over 5,000 reads. Compared to any other story I’ve written, this story has skyrocketed above the rest in popularity.
This is the story I’m referring to in case anyone wants to take a look.
Did I know when I wrote the story that it would do these kinds of numbers?
Have I learned a great deal about writing viral stories from this?
I didn’t just learn a lot from it, I took notes on it. The more the story blew up, the more I analyzed it. I’ve boiled it down to four lessons I’ve taken from writing my first viral story that can be applied to any story on any platform. …
Now that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have taken office, speculations are swirling about new bills that might be passed.
One idea that caught my attention — and the attention of many others — is forgiving the national student loan debt. Interest on our loans has been put on hold for almost a year now, and it looks set to continue that way in the interim future.
Forgiving student loan debt completely would remove many struggling Americans from low-income situations. …
“Go out and see the world.” As a young person, I’m told this all the time.
Older people say that I’m ‘missing out on so much.’ I always reply with a look of lostness like I was just told my fly was unzipped.
Maybe it’s because I don’t quite get it, but I’m really happy with not traveling to see the world. I’m content in my own little space for long periods of time.
No part of my brain says “You know what, I’ve never seen the Outer Banks before. Better get there before it’s gone.” …
Taking a run is a time for many of us to relieve stress and not worry about the world around us.
In today’s society, running in the wrong neighborhood can lead to dirty looks and strange events. On Feb. 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery was murdered while out for a run in Glynn County, Georgia.
As a biracial man who consistently runs through parks and neighborhoods in a rural area, Arbery’s death scares me. It scares me every time a car passes, every time a dog runs up, and every time I’m in a neighborhood where nobody there looks like me.
I’ve seen some things that I believe wouldn’t have happened if I was white. …
With all of the platforms that are available to make money writing on, it can be difficult to determine which are actually worth your time.
Yes, you can write for a platform like Vocal.media but is it really worth your time? We already determined the answer was ‘no,’ unless you’re a paying member.
I love finding, signing up for and trying my hand at making money on different writing platforms. As a writer who loves writing — and money — finding new websites to write for and trying them out is the best.
With that said, I’ve been using the platform Constant Content for almost a month now and feel as though I have a good enough grip on it to write a review for other writers. …
Nike — the household brand recognized by its trademark swoosh and iconic “Just Do It” catchphrase.
At least, that’s what it was recognized for a decade ago. These days, the company is responsible for more than just selling sportswear.
In the past decade, Nike quietly ascended its original platform from sportswear retailer to an entire fitness lifestyle. What started out as a company selling athletic footwear now sells tech, employs musicians instead of just athletes, mimics social media platforms, and has its own culture. It successfully built a deeper relationship with its customers, taking the brand to a new level.
Before diving into everything, what surprised me the most is how well Nike did it. …
An extra hundred dollars each month can go a long way in your pocket.
It could go toward your Wi-Fi bill, pay for all of your subscription services like Netflix and Hulu or it could be used to build that emergency fund you’ve been working on. No matter how you angle it, an extra $100 in your pocket every month is nice.
You could pick up a part-time job at Target to earn this hundred bucks but let’s be realistic, none of us really want to do that in today’s climate.
What if I told you that you could make this $100 from the comfort of your own home by simply taking surveys? …
If you’ve been scrolling on Medium at all in the past few months, you’ve probably seen stories from writers about their endeavors on News Break. It’s an up-and-coming platform similar to Medium. They pay their writers for the number of views they get on a story, sound familiar?
On the other hand, we have Vocal.media. It’s been around for years and it’s in the more low-key sector of freelance writing. They too pay their writers depending on the number of views they get per story.
I’ve had some experience with both platforms and read a ton of stories about them as well. It was boring research, but I did it so you didn’t have to go through the same thing as me. …
That’s right, I said it. Money doesn’t belong in a checking account.
Money in a checking account or a low-interest savings account is money on the sidelines. It’s not making you more money, it’s not invested into an asset, it’s just waiting to be spent.
My savings account is my emergency fund. Money that can be accessed at a moment’s notice for when life hits me with a sucker punch. It’s not there to make me more money by gaining interest.
My checking account acts as the point guard of my team, distributing the assists and throwing alley-oops to my investments. Once funds are distributed, they are never passed back to the point guard. …
If you’re unsure about how profitable side hustles can be then I’m here to help.
Doing side hustles can make you extra income if you have enough time to spend on them. For me, some weeks are much better than others.
I want to be completely transparent and show you exactly how much money I made from my side hustles last week. I’m also including where I made the money from, how much time I spent and why I earned more or less money than a typical week for me doing side hustles.
I hope doing this will allow you to see how much money can be made from doing side hustles without even leaving your home. …
